OUR VALUES AT A GLANCE
What is important to us?
Thank you for your interest in our work! We are happy to be able to make a positive impact to Berlin's cityscape and society and to strengthen what makes NATUR STADT BERLIN what it is. In the following, you will learn more about the values that shape our cooperation.
Catalog of values for our cooperation
We are philanthropic.
The network coordination centers for nature, environment, climate and sustainability education in Berlin is independent of parties and denominations. They see themselves as an association of people who are committed to the idea of Humanism, the international understanding, the general human rights and the democratic participation.
We stand for diversity and democracy.
We stand for a diverse and democratic society that recognizes human rights and is naturally in favor of self-determined lifestyles.
In this society, all people must be able to participate and experience support – regardless of their skin color, gender, origin, age, religion or ideology, sexual identity, material situation, physical or mental condition.
We want a life in harmony with nature.
We want to live in a world where we see our interconnectedness with nature. Therefore, we want to cultivate a respectful and mindful approach to the vulnerability and resilience of the Earth and its ecosystems based on scientifically validated knowledge.
This includes acting responsibly in terms of limited resources and global justice. In the areas of social, political, material and ecological change, sustainable success can only be achieved with a democratic culture of debate that involves everyone.
We are against any form of misanthropy.
Our society should be open to all – therefore we do not tolerate positions that deny the equal participation of others.
We speak out clearly against racism, anti-Semitism, sexism and and against all other forms of group-based misanthropy.
Mutual respect and tolerance are indispensable.
Authoritarian approaches, inhuman behavior, exclusion, hatred and agitation have no place with us.
We stand for solidarity with one another and take a differentiated view of world events. We speak out against simplistic explanations, images of the enemy and conspiracy myths that stir up irrational mistrust of groups that are then often discriminated against and that try to inappropriately reduce the complexity of social realities.
We take responsibility.
We are aware of the activities of right-wing extremist and right-wing populist groups and deniers of scientifically validated knowledge in our subject areas of nature, environment, climate and sustainability education.
We see it as our responsibility to draw attention to this problem and to deal with our own positions in an ongoing process. We see it as part of our work to make these positions transparent and to actively communicate them to the public.
