1. What makes our district so special?

As a district on the outskirts of Berlin, you feel like you’re “way out there,” yet you’re right in the heart of city life! Spandau offers urban nature alongside built-up areas, giving nature the space it needs—whether in the sprawling Spandauer Forest, the Rieselfelder, the water and bike trails along the Havel, or from the Hahneberg—there’s plenty of nature to discover here! With over eight grazing projects, sheep and goats are also part of the cityscape. Farms and vegetable gardens bring urban agriculture to life.

2. Which green and sustainable places does our district have to offer?

The Spandauer Forst is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in Berlin. The Spree flows into the Havel at the Lindenufer. There t,he oldest forest school in Berlin can be found. Hahneberg nature conservation station invites you to nature adventures and Hahneberg itself scores with a unique view and one of the largest wild bee populations in the city. Here you can also marvel at cultural-historical "grown" landscapes, such as Rieselfelder Karolinenhöhe. NSG Windmühlenberg even offers a historic windmill. On the Tiefwerder meadows you can watch water buffaloes grazing. In Spandau Citadel and Fort Hahneberg you can discover Europe's largest hibernation site for bats and along the Havel you can ride on Germany's most beautiful bike path. In addition, Spandau offers two gardening schools: the Landschaftspflegeverband Spandau e.V. (Spandau Landscape Conservation Association) mediates between man and nature, and sustainable living is emphasized and exemplified in the climate workshop.

3. Which are the topics that we are most concerned with in the district?

As the coordinating office, we want to inspire and invite people to participate in the diverse environmental education offerings in Spandau. Together we make the nature experience places and educational sites visible, network providers and users, offer advice and information at workshops and training courses and build together in the "Green Network Spandau" a lively network for a sustainable, livable and ecologically sustainable urban nature.
